'It's only the beginning' - Extinction R Melbourne
The police of Victoria tries to control Mebourne more and more. And more and more protesters of Extinction Rebellion come out of their houses to capture attention of the government to the climate problems, Police warned workers in the city centre, that activists will cause much disruption in the peak hour, so they'd better go home earlier. Yesterday about 100 people tried to block entrance to the headquarters of mining giant BHP on Collins Street. During the week there were commited more than a hundred arrests. Police says, they are not against peaceful protests, but this one has created chaos in the city. Near Queen Street, for example, 'Rebellion' caused commuter gridlock and worsened traffic.
Today, also, it was found, that conditions, that restricted some activists to take part in the protests, given by police, are invalid. According to the law police can't use bail conditions as an ban against participation in protests. Though police had to release those activists, anyway, they are expected to face the court later.
